How do I get ChatGPT to recommend my business?
Why does AI give different answers about me on different platforms?
Go ask ChatGPT who to hire in your industry. Then ask Gemini. Then ask Claude. I’m willing to bet you’ll get three different answers.
That part is out of your control. AI platforms don’t all agree, and they’re changing every single day. What you can control is whether your name shows up in those answers and whether it shows up consistently.
Right now, whether you get recommended by ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Google AI Overview comes down to foundational work most entrepreneurs have skipped. I’ve been teaching my clients this foundation since 2021, way before AI was on most of our radar. The platforms will keep evolving. The foundation won’t.
When we first started doing this work in The Visible Inner Circle mastermind, there were a lot of discrepancies and incorrect information. My clients couldn’t see where to go until we knew what it said about them at that moment. That started back in February and it’s only improved.
AI Is Just the Newest Place Your Clients Are Looking
Being omnipresent has always meant one thing: being findable everywhere your person decides to look. The feed, Google, YouTube, podcasts. AI is simply the newest place they’re looking.
So while everyone else is scrambling to learn “AI visibility” from scratch, my clients have been building it all along. If you’ve been in my world for a while, this will feel familiar. It’s the same foundation, pointed at a new platform.
Why a Confused AI Will Never Recommend You
We say this about social media all the time: a confused audience doesn’t buy.
Here’s the AI version: a confused AI will never recommend you.
Most of that confusion isn't anything you did wrong. It’s stuff you just haven’t cleaned up yet. An old brand name. A pivot in your business. A title that changes from platform to platform. If you haven’t stayed solid on something long enough, AI hasn’t had the chance to build trust in you.
I know this because I had to clean up my own. When I searched my name in AI, it pulled up:
The Visible CEO, my current brand
The Visibility Queen, my brand name from years ago
Crissy Conner Creates, my LLC, original business name I used to go by
My IT recruiting career, from before I ever started this business
On top of that, I called myself a visibility coach in some places, a visibility expert in others and a visibility strategist in other places. To me, those felt like the same thing. To AI, they're not. And AI shouldn't have to figure that out for you. It should be clear.
You can be multiple things. But you have to get solid on who you say you are and what you're known for or you'll get left behind.
To fix this, I went in and found all the sources saying the wrong things. If the sources weren’t things I could control or fix, I just made a note in my website that that was a previous brand name, but it was still me.
You Don’t need a Big Agency to Win AI Search
When you're a solopreneur or have a small team it's easy to get in your feels and think you don't have a shot against the big brands. That's absolutely not true.
Big brands throw agencies, tools and budgets to AI search trying to own thousands of queries. At that scale they get sloppy.
You don’t need to do that. You need to own the 10 to 20 questions your ideal client is actually asking.
For a personal brand, dominating AI search means this: when your person asks AI their question, your name shows up often and consistently. So often that AI’s response is basically, “Well of course I’m going to recommend her.”
The Four Steps to Dominate AI Search Visibility
Step 1: Make Your Bio Congruent Everywhere
There’s one thing working against every single one of us that none of us can control: every platform has a different character limit. Facebook, instagram, tiktok, LinkedIn, YouTube. Some let you say everything. Some cap you before you can get your gold out into the world.
The fix is simple. Always start with the same thing. When every bio opens the same way AI can connect the dots: that Linkedin is hers, that Instagram is hers, that podcast interview is hers, etc.
Here’s mine:
Crissy Conner is a visibility strategist, Neurogetics Certified Business Coach, speaker, and author. Crissy Conner is the founder of the visibility strategy and business coaching brand The Visible CEO and the host of the marketing podcast The Visibility Impact Show.
That opening line needs to match everywhere you show up:
Social media bios
Your LinkedIn Headline and about section
Your YouTube channel description
Your website About page
The bio you send podcast hosts for show notes
Your speaker one sheet and media kit.
Shorter platforms get the first part. Longer ones get the whole thing plus more. But they all start the same way.
I had a client who updated just the things on her Google Business page and all of a sudden her leads into her inbox increased, from doing this simple clean up.
Step 2: Build a Searchable Long Form Content Library
Most people focus on social media. In my world, we say the feed brings the speed. if you're launching something social media is where you get momentum fast.
But the long game is what builds your name. That’s searchable content: what gets searched and what gets cited.
Think of one long form piece of content each week whether that's video, audio or a blog and maximize it. Every one of these formats is searchable in its own way.
FORMAT | WHAT AI AND SEARCH CAN READ |
YouTube Video | Title, typed description, transcript |
Podcast episode | Title on Apple, Spotify, and your own site, show notes, transcript |
Blog post | The entire post, every heading, every word, FAQs |
And consistency matters. From what I'm seeing, if you stop publishing long form content for about 13 weeks you fall out of the freshness window. A weekly rhythm keeps you fresh and keeps your older content getting cited.
Blogs are having a huge comeback right now, too. Hands down, your blog should live on your own website. If you’re already writing with Substack, that’s great. Just keep finding ways to bring those readers back to the blog you own.
I suggest your weekly rhythm looks like this.
Posting on the same day each week. Taking that long form searchable content and maximizing it to clips, reels, quotes, listicles and more for your social media to work smarter not harder and also to drive traffic to your site.
Step 3: Answer the Questions Your Clients Are Actually Asking
Most of us create content about what we want to say, not what our clients are asking. But AI answers questions. So we have to give it answers. Otherwise, it scrapes the Internet for the average answer when you are the expert. You want AI to pull from you and cite you That's how you increase your visibility with AI.
Here’s how different the questions sound. Someone searching Google for a plumber used to type something like:
Plumber near me
Someone asks AI, something like this:
My basement just flooded and I’m freaking out. Who’s open today to come help me?
AI search is a conversation, not a list of search terms. So turn your clients real questions into:
podcast episode titles
blog post headers
FAQs on your website
Your exercise: write down the 10 questions you want AI to answer with your name. You know your person so deeply. What are they asking right before they need someone like you?
Step 4: Get Other People to Confirm Who You Are
AI doesn't just trust what you say about you. It needs to know what others are saying about you.
AI and Google both have trust issues. They're like someone who's been catfished and now trust no one. So you have to prove you are who you say you are.
That's where leveraging other people's audiences comes in:
Guest podcast appearances
Features and articles
Collaborations
Reviews and testimonials
Every time, make sure the host or publication uses that same opening bio line from Step 1. When someone else introduces you the same way you introduce yourself, they're backing you up.
I call this in demand content. When you share it on social media it shows your audience you're in demand. When you also put it on your website it shows AI and Google the same thing.
So I'm not just saying I'm a visibility strategist and pretending to play one on the Internet. It's what I've been doing since 2018, and here are the articles and podcast episodes that back it up. Episodes where someone asked me questions I didn't see coming and I answered as the expert that I am.
When you create something like this, it will show AI that these are all of me and it can connect you to them.
Your Homework: Search Yourself in AI
AI platforms are going to have algorithms just like everything else, because they want you to stay on them. Especially as they start adding ads. The platforms will keep changing. The foundation doesn't.
So here's your homework:
Open each AI platform, ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude
Ask each one “Who is [your name}?” and “Who is [your business or brand name]?”
Tell it to publicly search and ignore previous chats.
Write down every place the answers don’t match who you are today.
Then check yourself against the four steps:
Is my bio congruent everywhere I show up?
Do I have long game content that builds my name? And is that is searchable?
Am I answering the questions my clients are actually asking?
Am I leveraging other people’s audiences to back me up?
FAQs About AI Visibility
What is AI Visibility?
AI Visibility is simply being visible to AI, so that you can be cited and recommended. Simply put, the more consistent the things you say about yourself, the more consistent others say things about you and the more consistent the topics of your content are when you understand exactly how a human would ask them to AI, that's how you become the most visible to AI in your industry.
How do I get ChatGPT to recommend my business?
Make your bio congruent everywhere, publish searchable long form content consistently, answer the real questions your clients ask and get other people to confirm who you are through podcast, features and reviews.
Why does AI give different answers about me on different platforms?
Each platform pulls from different sources and is changing constantly. The more consistent your information is across the Internet, the more consistent the answers become.
Do I need an SEO agency to show up in AI search?
No. You don’t need to own thousands of queries like a big brand. You need to won the 10-20 questions your ideal client is actually asking.
